Um, yeah, that stinks

So, my free mystery lace KAL has been turned into a not so free Mystery Lace KAL. Apparently, there was some sort of hootananny over at the Yahoo group (which I haven't paid any attention too), and it's caused all sorts of personal problems for the designer. I can't really comment all that much, since I don't know what it was about. And, the explanations of the designer on Ravelry lead me to believe that I really don't want any part of knowing. I like to knit because there's usually no drama involved, ya know?

I won't be upping the $10 to join in the Mystery fun. In my head I was willing to spend X amount of money on this project, and the fee puts me over my budget. I'm trying to not be judgmental, but I am super annoyed. I was really excited about this project. But, I also think it's kind of snarky to say you'll do something for free and then give out one clue and turn around and change your mind. Again, maybe it's really warranted based on whatever went on in the Yahoo group.

Anyway, now I have 1320 yards of white laceweight, and apparently about a million size 8/0 clear beads. Any ideas on what to do with it?

You know.. I was in that group too... I had no idea what was going on, since I only get special messages not every single one ( I have too much to do to read all that anyway) So I got nothing of the drama either -THANK GOODNESS!!!!- But now we have to pay??? that stinks! I think I'm out.. I joined because it was free and now to charge and then not just a bit but 10 Bucks? that is a lot!
Definitely too much for me! :o
Wish you a great weekend with happy knitting!
B. :)

You know, I just read the notice!
I guess if she is sick and now has to worry about how to feed her children I can understand.. but it is still too much money for me to spend.. I hope everything works out for her!

I was there too. Waaay too much drama. I purchased Leda(?) and Scheherazade Stole(comes with a sock pattern) for $8 from Pink Lemon Twist. 3 patterns that I know what they look like, for $8, much better value. Casted on Scheherazade last night. Must knit more.

I went through the messages from the designer with amazement and disbelief: it is rather evident that she regrets her decision to give the pattern out free and is now trying to find some excuses to make it paying. I think that you have resumed the whole situation very well in your comment on Ravelry and am happy I was involved in another project (knitandknag's Mystic Light) so I did not sign up. BTW, one of my fellow knitters ;) told me that already the swatch had mistakes (and she has a long experience in lace-knitting) so it is not a surprise if she had to spend time answering the mails... Best, A.

I was in the same group, and will not up the 10 bucks to that woman when the first 20 rows she released had not one but 2 mistakes. Pink Lemon Twists Swan lake is really pretty and it uses size 8 seed beads as well. He patterns are well organized and you can get immediate download. Good Luck!!

I watched that train wreck from afar, too. I tried to read all the designers comments, but was shocked at how overwhelmed she seemed, yet unwilling to delegate. Anytime anybody else tried to step up and consolidate information in a FAQ or repost previous comments, she replied with comments about how it violates copyright, even though she was credited. She even referred to her posts as being like a class handout. I can't speak for everybody else, but I didn't sign up for a class and wasn't looking for one. I got the impression that she kind of switched gears to the paid-class idea pretty early on.

As another side note, doesn't $25 for her other stole pattern seem excessive? $25??? Seriously? For ONE pattern?

Ok, that's my one vent on the whole thing.
